Details of our home

This Santa Cruz Vacation rental began as a small single story cottage in 1941.  In 1977 the upper floor and garage were added.  The final transformation took place between 1996 and 2016 with major architectural upgrades bringing the house to its present level of seaside luxury.  The latest upgrade were installation of bamboo hardwood flooring and carpets, appliances, beds, HDTVs, an additional massage chair and other furnishings were replaced.  Click on any photo for a larger image.  Additional photos can be viewed in the house gallery.

The house can comfortably accommodate 7 guests.  Bed linen and bath towels to match are provided.  Included are basic cleaning supplies, such as laundry soap, paper towels, bath tissue.  At an extra charge daily or mid-week housekeeping can be arranged.

The 2 bedrooms are carpeted.  The upstairs living and dining areas have hardwood bamboo flooring; the kitchen (adjacent to the dining area) has black marble; and the downstairs hall, entryway and bathrooms are tiled.

Sleeping accommodations

Sleeping accommodations are flexible enough for up to 7 guests –

The master bedroom on the 1st floor contains a Olympic Queen Sleep Number bed.  Should you wish, small children can sleep on a portable futon, adjustable to twin or full size, placed on the floor.

Also on the 1st floor is a second bedroom with a full and twin size beds.

The sun room nook on the 2nd floor has a twin size futon that can be deployed.

The 2nd floor living room’s “L” shaped built-in sofa is made of 7-inch thick high density foam.  The 2 sectionals are: 7 feet long and 6 long, both 3 feet wide.  They are quite comfortable and totally superior to the old fashioned foldout spring sofa beds. Great for an afternoon nap while listening to the ocean.

Upstairs Area

The upstairs area is faced with a solid expanse of windows overlooking Monterey Bay with a glance at ancient and heavily fluted Monterey cypress.  A view toward the water is over neighboring rooftops and the surrounding Seabright neighborhood.  The area is close to 600 square feet, sunny with a total of 19 windows and 11 skylights.  The sun room nook is merely the sunniest spot, but in the event of too much light just drop a few shades on the windows or skylights.

The upstairs includes the upper deck, sun room nook, living and dining areas, the kitchen and an adjacent half-bath.  Book shelves, 47" HDTV, DVR, Blue Ray DVD player, and complete audio video surround sound system complete the setting.

For a better view walk from the living area up a few steps to the rooftop deck.  The deck is 275 square feet surrounded by a capped glass top railing.  When seated you are sheltered from any wind, have complete privacy, yet can take

advantage of a 360 view.  Snuggle yourself and guests into two zero gravity chairs or the 2 swivel rocking deck chairs orf 2 cushioned upright deck chairs around the umbrella’d round topped glass table.  Enjoy the Wednesday evening sailboat races and the setting sun with a glass of wine.  On warmer evenings turn on the indirect outdoor lighting and watch the stars.  A gas fired Weber BBQ will complete the day.

The upstairs is open-air with no dividing walls.  So the cook is never isolated from

the rest of the guests.  Indeed the kitchen corner area is not merely the culinary hotspot but deservedly the focal point of the house.  It compares favorably with some or more of the gourmet elements of kitchens seen on the Cooking Channel.  It has a black granite counter top, wall cap and back splashes.  The floor is black marble.  The oven/stove top is a Dacor 4-burner gas range with convection oven.  It’s topped with a quiet vent-a-hood exhaust.  A bottom freezer LG refrigerator holds enough for the entire family and includes a filtered water ice maker.  The sink features a  filtered water dispenser.  Besides the usual plates, glasses and utensils, there are also wine and martini glasses.  To cook up a storm or just heat pizza there are variously sized pots and pans, bake ware, blender, toaster, coffee maker, microwave, etc.

The dining area is immediately adjacent to the kitchen corner near the window expanse with a view of Monterey Bay.  The east and south facing windows filter the morning sun.  The dining table accommodates up to 6 with six chairs.  The breakfast bar facing south toward Monterey Bay has 2 comfortable swivel stools.

The sun room area is an intimate space facing the south (beach side) immediately to the right of the breakfast bar.  The breakfast bar/sun room nook areas

represent the best south viewing area overlooking Monterey Bay – a perfect place for sipping wine or morning coffee on comfortably padded swivel stools.  Together they face a solid expanse of 8 windows and 6 skylights with blinds.

The living room contains a large “L” shaped built in sofa, a gas fireplace, 47 inch High Definition LCD television (1080p) and multi-media entertainment center with built in Boston speakers and cabinets. Record your favorite programs on the Xfinity DVR. To round out the luxury of the living room, there is a Human Touch electric massage recliner chair for complete relaxation! (see picture of living room at top of page).

A half-bath is immediately adjacent to the living room area.

Downstairs Area

Master bedroom suite is approximately 175 square feet with an open vaulted ceiling and overhead fan.  A sliding glass door opens to a small deck festooned with Bougainvillea for a bit of privacy from the street while retaining a peak of  the bay.  The deck can accommodate 2 persons in padded outdoor rocker chairs and table.  The bedroom has a 37” LCD TV and DVD player.  In addition music from the upstairs home entertainment center can be heard via the built-in Boston speakers.  There is a desk and Olympic Queen-sized Sleep Number bed and massage chair.

The master bathroom is

accessible only through the master bedroom.  It has a glass block shower.  The Jacuzzi spa tub can accommodate 2 reclining persons.  Other elements include dimming lights, Italian tile, ultra-quiet exhaust fan, a manual opening skylight, and (as with the bedroom) piped in music from upstairs.  A 6-foot wide closet can store hanging clothes and spillover items.

The second bedroom features a double and twin beds.  A small closet holds hanging clothes with the built-in cabinet holding folded clothes.  As with the master bedroom music from the upstairs can be piped in from upstairs.  A bathroom with glass-enclosed shower is directly across the entrance to this bedroom.
